The outpouring of emotion has been non-stop since news broke that country music legend George Jones passed away at the age of 81. Tons of celebrities, inside and outside of the country world, took to Twitter to mourn the star’s death.
George Jones wrote some of the most iconic country songs in history. Many have called him the greatest country singer of all time. His affect on people was only made clearer by his passing on April 26 — Twitter almost immediately flooded with grief and support for the Jones family, and celebrities like Miley Cyrus led the way.Miley Cyrus & Family Mourn George Jones’ Death
She tweeted, “God bless Mr. Jones and his family. Especially Mrs.Nancy…. That was family. my fav record I AM WHAT I AM will be on repeat today.” The Cyrus family was obviously very close to George and his family, as both of Miley’s parents also expressed their thoughts on Twitter. “So sad to hear about George Jones this morning. Ive been friends with his Nancy for many years.George was the sweetest man. RIP George,” Tish Cyrus said and Billy Ray added, “I’m stunned and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend George Jones.The very definition of a legend. Country music stars showed their respect for the fallen legend as well. Blake Shelton tweeted, “Really REALLY bad news. We’ve lost a country music legend. And I’ve lost a hero and a friend. Goodbye George Jones…”Faith Hill tweeted, “We lost one of the best voices God created this morning. Our hearts are saddened to hear that George Jones has passed away…” and Keith Urban tweeted, “If I’m blessed enough to make it there, I look forward to you giving me the grand tour. Rest in peace George Jones!!!!! -KU.”
Reba McEntire sent out the message, “My prayers go out to Nancy Jones today. Her partner and husband George Jones passed this morning. We’ll miss George…”
And George was also remembered by a few fellow music legends. Dolly Parton tweeted, “My heart is absolutely broken. George Jones was my all time favorite singer…” while Ringo Starr of The Beatles said, “Ringo would like to say thank you to George Jones for all the great music is the love and God rest you.”

But perhaps the most amazing thing is the amount of love that George received from outside of the country music world. Kelly Clarkson left the message, “Sad to hear about George Jones passing. That man touched a lot of lives with his music. Thanks for setting the bar.”Zooey Deschanel also passed along her thoughts: “RIP one of my favorite singers, George Jones.” And Lance Armstrong tweeted, “RIP George Jones.”
George was so clearly loved by so many people. He will obviously be missed dearly, and we’re sure many a country songs will be written in his honor.
