49ers Fan Dies on Opening Day, Team Sends Family Condolences

Very sad news out of San Francisco on the first Sunday of NFL action:

An unidentified man in his 30s fell to his death from a walkway in Candlestick Park not long after the opening kickoff of the 49ers 34-28 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

The tragedy occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time, with witnesses saying the victim appeared intoxicated before stumbling to his death.

Police officers and paramedics rushed to the man's aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," 49ers spokesman Bob Lange wrote in an email.

There have been over 20 cases of attendees falling to their deaths at stadiums around the country since 2003, with the most recent example being Ronald Lee Homer Jr.

The Atlanta Braves fan fell 85 feet from a Turner Field's fourth-level railing last month.

This is happening too often. As a doctor, If I hurt people this often I would be done!
