ABC's affiliation with Disney seems to be paying off a bit more for Jimmy Kimmel Live since Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise. Last month, Kimmel staged a pretty heated (and amusing) confrontation between Harrison Ford and his old pal Chewbacca. Apparently the two had a falling out over an indiscretion between Chewy and Leia. The topic of the wookiee came up again this week when Star Wars and Star Trek director J.J. Abrams visited Kimmel's show. Once again, Kimmel turned to the audience for question s, and once again, there were costumed fans and a few notable guest stars waiting for their chance to speak.
In addition to speaking to an eager fan in a slave Leia costume, Billy Dee Williams - a.k.a. Lando Calrissian - stood up to make a suggestion to Abrams for Star Wars Episode VII. "The next Star Wars - nothing but Lando," Williams said, confidently. "Two hours of Lando and beautiful ladies making love sweet love in the galaxy." Abrams seemed uncertain but politely willing to consider the idea. And then another questioner stood up. This one should look especially familiar to Star Trek fans. Shatner!
William Shatner recommended a bit of Kirk for the film, which I doubt Star Trek fans would complain about. And then he took the conversation back to the idea of Chewy and Leia together. He agrees with those "weird people" that Leia and Chewy should do it. "They should do it, J.J.!" He even brought a bit of fan art with him to i llustrate the concept. How do you argue with Shatner?
While the subject of Star Wars came up, Abrams was on the show to plug Star Trek Into Darkness, which made its way into theaters this weekend.
