Michele Bachmann to Retire from Congress

Michele Bachmann to Retire from Congress

Donald Trump in 2016? Maybe.

Michele Bachmann in 2014? Definitely not.

The Minnesota Congresswoman and former President candidate made it official in a video announcement this morning: she will not be seeking a fifth term in office.

"The law limits anyone from serving as president of the United States for more than eight years, and in my opinion, well, eight years is also long enough for an individual to serve as a representative for a specific Congressional district," Bachmann said.

The controversial conservative did not give an exact reason for her retirement - but did state that an ongoing ethics investigation into her conduct while running for The White House was NOT the basis for her decision.

"It was clearly understood that compliance with all rules and regulations was an absolute necessity for my presidential campaign," Bachmann said. "And I have no reason to believe that that was not the case."

Bachmann was elected in 2007 as the first Republican woman to represent Minnesota in Congress.

She strongly opposes Obamacare.
