Fifty Shades of Grey: Rejected By Ryan Gosling!

Fifty Shades of Grey: Rejected By Ryan Gosling!

Ryan Gosling could have been Christian Grey if he had any interest, but turned down the steamy Fifty Shades of Grey role, according to a new report.

While earlier reports suggested that author EL James wanted Robert Pattinson for the role, Gosling, 32, was the original choice for Universal Studios.

Gosling was heavily courted, only to pass on the role may fans wanted to see him in. Ryan, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer were all fan favorites.

Universal's second choice Garrett Hedlund, 29, reportedly gave it a chance, but "couldn't connect with the character" and pulled out of the running in July.

Eventually, the studio settled on Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson as his love interest Ana Steele, casting moves that have been widely panned by fans.

A Change (dot) org petition, signed by more than 47,000 fans, actually demanded that the producers of the flick reconsider Bomer over Hunnam.

The White Collar star said he was flattered, but would not take up the cause, saying he's looking forward to seeing the film with Charlie and Dakota.

As for how Hunnam got the part, he agreed only after meeting with director Sam Taylor-Johnson and producers Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca.

Universal closed the trilogy deal with Hunnam, 33, and his on-screen love Dakota Johnson, 23, by Labor Day after testing the two actors' chemistry.

Johnson, like Hunnam, was a letdown to some readers eager to see Alexis Bledel, Elizabeth Olson or Shailene Woodley play Anastasia Steele.

Will you still see the Fifty Shades of Grey movie?
